Turquoise Tea

 Sep 27, 2010

Now, don't you go freaking out, describing how many times your great-great-grandma is spinning in her grave, aghast that someone would dream of painting silver. Because you can find these silver tea sets anywhere. For around $10. So, if you feel particularly guilty, you can buy two. Keep one for grandma and paint the other one turquoise like Chrissie did {HERE}, because gosh dang, how cute!
Chrissie also brings to us the Tale of Tiffany, her dated sofa that was destined for a dramatic end until Chrissie and her friend saved the day with a Sunbrella slipcover. See it here: Chrissie's Collections.

What's that? You want to see another sofa? Well ok! This sofa is from Kyra (who I actually used to babysit when I was younger, yikes! I feel old! Well, I don't know that I actually babysat her, being that she has like 12 sisters, {slight exaggeration} but I hung out over at her house a lot).

I never knew Kyra possessed renegade upholstery skills, but lo and behold, she does! She bought this grungeosaurus couch for $16, inherited some fabric from her sister, so with nothing to lose she worked her magic and voila! Looks great. And lovely colors for fall, I must say. Thanks for sharing Kyra!

I think that may very well be my old grungeosaurus couch. I swear I had one just like it, but in my defense, I bought it only because it looked just like Allie McBeal's couch. (Back in like 1998) It looks great now. She did a super job!

Who would have ever thought to paint a tea service??? Looks great! You always show such wonderful ideas...I am not a visionary and could never think of most of these things!

Those couches are unbelievable. They did an awesome job. I love the tea set, I can't get mine to shine anymore and am so tired of trying, I just might do this instead.

Yes, I see those sets all the time. The painted set would be really cute displayed on a shelf.

If it says EPSN (electo plated silver on nickel) or ESPA (on aluminum) then go for it. If it has some funny marks that look like lions heads and/or diamonds, stop what you are doing, put down the spray can and take it to a dealer. I have the exact same tea set and it's worth $600 (and that's an EPSN, too!) It pays to double check ANY thing you are going to do up. However, I do like the new colour!
